A Brief History of Camp Pursuit

Penguins have questions.png
Camp Pursuit was created in 2013 by two public school teachers who believe students genuinely love to learn when the content is real and inspired. Using their own curriculum model, they blended the inductive scientific method (S), purposeful technology (T), problem-based engineering (E), and the art of expressive narrative (A) with exploratory mathematics (M).

That first year, they saw how genuine interest melts away differences--first graders and fifth graders were coding and cooking and creating side-by-side in STEAM courses taught by passionate Inspirators.

In ten years, the spark has spanned with globe, with over 200 unique courses in three countries. From the very beginning, 10% of all proceeds and donations have provided scholarships, and in 2016 NuMinds Enrichment partnered with Education Unbound, a 501(c)3, to extend their reach into at-need areas through the formation of charitable donations. To date, over 20,000 students ranging from inner-city Dallas, rural Texas, Washington D.C., and Syrian refugee camps in Lebanon have had access to high-quality, choice-based educational enrichment.

We hope you engage with us this year, and experience the joy of real, inspired learning. Most importantly, may you see and know that you are full of worth and part of a great, interconnected tapestry. ❤️

Six Reasons to LOVE Camp Pursuit

STUDENT CHOICE

Since 2013, our catalogs and registration portal allow campers to select the courses they're curious about. Pursue your passion and cultivate your talent.

VIRTUAL &

IN-PERSON

Our Pandemic Proof model allows us to deliver both in-person and virtual camps, easily switching if the need arises.

PATENTED CURRICULUM MODEL

Our narrative-based approach to mixed-age, interdisciplinary learning is so unique, we hold a USPTO Patent.

PRIVATE LABEL

All of the benefits of Camp Pursuit, but we simply erase our name.

Great for organizations who want to provide summer programming with their own brand, but may not have the infrastructure.

NON-PROFIT PARTNERSHIP

We offer scholarships and subsidies with every camp.

Because learning is for everyone.

HOLISTIC APPROACH

We infuse every day of Camp Pursuit with Habits of Mind, Mindfulness, Mind/Body Connection, and strengthening of the locus of the control.

We've been on this path since the 90's. It's kind of our jam.

Q: How is Camp Pursuit responding to Covid-19?

Following local and federal guidelines, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to move all in-person Camp Pursuits for the month of June to the online Camp Pursuit | World Edition.  We will continue to monitor July and August Camps.

Q: Who is Camp Pursuit for?

Camp Pursuit was created for any kid who is fueled by curiosity, loves to learn, and hungers for knowledge and engagement. Most camps are 1st-6th grade (some locations vary). Please confirm a camp’s age range on its information page.

Q: What makes Camp Pursuit unique?

Camp Pursuit is built by educators who genuinely love to learn!  We use our proprietary curriculum model to create one-of-a-kind, STEAM courses that bledn storytelling with project-based, interdisciplinary study.

All of our courses include built-in options for choice and accelerated materials, and every class is taught by a passionate Inspirator  who has been trained to work with a wide variety of students in mixed-aged classroom models

Q: Are there installment options?

Pricing varies by location and duration of the camp; however, many programs allow you to pay in installments. Check your location for more details.

Q: What is the cancellation policy?

$50 from each registration cost is non-refundable as it helps us cover the cost of credit card fees, clerical work, scheduling, and ordering supplies.

Cancellation notice must be submitted via email to NuMindsAdmin@numien.com. Refund will be issued in the same manner payment was made. 100% of tuition paid (not including the $50 Registration Fee) will be refunded if written notice is received no later than four weeks prior to session start date.

Cancellations received within four or less weeks of session start date forfeit full tuition.

We reserve the right to cancel a session date if participation numbers are not adequate. If your session is canceled, you may select an alternative session date or request a full refund (including registration). Any cancellations of sessions will occur a minimum of four weeks prior to the session.

Q: How do I get a Camp Pursuit near me?

Are you too far from the fun? While we're waiting for our flying drone school bus, what we do is partner with schools to bring Camp Pursuit to you. We make the process simple, we hire locally, and we even offer profit sharing to help schools raise funds to keep for themselves. Simply let us know who to reach out to, and we will do our best to bring Camp Pursuit to a school near you!

Q: How does scheduling work?

Every year, the team at Camp Pursuit creates 10 courses. While all of our courses are integrated, they are designed with a focus on each element of STEAM. So as you look through the catalog, you’ll see there are 2 Science courses, 2 Technology courses, 2 Engineering courses, 2 Art courses, and 2 Math courses.

Camp Pursuit is designed for campers to experience one course per day (a 4-day camp = 4 courses; a 5-day camp = 5 courses). This means there will always be more courses to choose from than a camper can take. This is intentional, as we want campers to have the element of choice as they customize their summer learning.

Scheduling is similar to registering for high school or college courses. For each category of STEAM, campers will select their first choice and an alternate backup. We begin to fill up the classes as registrations come in, creating more sections of a course as needed. NOTE: We often create multiple sections, which means if you and your friend are enrolled in “Rockets & Pasta,” you may be scheduled for different sections of the same course.

If the first choice does not have enough registrants, campers will be placed in their alternate backup. Because scheduling depends on the number of registrants and available staff, we are unable to confirm if a course has/has not made. You are able to see your course selections in the email confirmation you received after registering or by logging into the Care.com registration portal.

Q: Who is Camp Pursuit for?

Camp Pursuit was created for any kid who is fueled by curiosity, loves to learn, and hungers for knowledge and engagement. Most camps are 1st-8th grade (some locations vary). Please confirm a camp’s age range on its information page.

Q: What can I expect from a virtual schedule?

With an in-person camp, you drop your camper off and then know when to pick him or her up. However, with a virtual schedule, parents want to plan the best experience for their family. Here's the most important details, but let us know if you still have questions:

  • There will be fun morning announcements, there will be daily mind/body challenges, and each course will contain 4-5 lessons EACH DAY with hands-on activities and projects. Plus, a trained adventure guide is there daily to take you questions and provide feedback/support.

  • Every morning announcement, every class, and every lesson will be recorded and available for streaming during the duration of the camp. This means some kiddos may want to be on the computer right at 9am CST for the morning announcements and open the lessons the second they drop, while other campers may be traveling, face connectivity issues, or simply want to sleep in. The on-demand learning helps family schedule their day and screen time in a way that's appropriate for them.

Q: Are there installment options?

Pricing varies by location and duration of the camp; however, many programs allow you to pay in installments. Check your location for more details.
